Legend says that in 1552 on the 36th day of the Eger castle’s siege.... when the soldiers started to become drained-Captain, Istvan Dobo opened the castle’s wine cellars and brought the soldiers wine. The defenders in the heat of the battle drunk red wine from their helmets. Their beard was dripping red wine and news spread among the enemy that Hungarian fighters were strong because they were drinking bull’s blood. Hence the name Bull’s Blood.
